BNC SalesData Tip #7: New Shoes and No Blisters

The Spring season is just around the corner, daylight savings is coming to a clock near you this weekend, and we have put on our new shoes this week!

Of course by shoes we mean a pair of reports, out of the box and all ready to slip on. And they don’t cause friction marks! On the left foot, the Title Trend Report, and on the right Titles by Markets Report, looking all fancy with their buckles.

Megatechnics Anyone? (Didn't Think So)

It is interesting how you can always discover new ways to look at data and Salesdata is no exception. We are adding new features regularly so it is always a danger that existing features get overlooked or forgotten.

Okay before we go down the rabbit hole of “Megatechnics” thinking, my point is really simple. Don’t forget what you already can do with SalesData reports!

BNC SalesData Tip #6: Bibliographic Data Gone Bad

One of the most popular question topics from BNC SalesData users is bibliographic data: where is it sourced; how is it updated; and how can errors in the data be corrected? And to keep up with them we needed to do some serious re-working of the system’s underlying architecture. At the same time (hey…why not?) we decided to add new functionality and streamline much of the application.

The Challenges of E-Book Sales Data

As the keepers of the aggregated book data for the Canadian industry, we are often asked to provide statistics on e-books. These requests come from far and wide but are often made from those wishing to compare Canadian adoption rates of digital technology with rates of other markets.

Unfortunately, our desire at BNC to quantify this data is met with considerable challenges when trying to put the metaphorical rubber to the road. A few for your consideration…

BNC SalesData Tip #3: Creating a Report and the Perils of Design

Changing the design of the bestseller report creator in SalesData was no easy task. The problem: how do you provide users with the ability to do advance searches in an interface that allows lots of criteria? You have to consider the best practices of designing when trying to solve this problem but as so many things in software development there are always exceptions.
