Hello fellow book lovers!
My name is Jordyn and I'm the new Research Intern at BookNet Canada. When I saw the job posting for this position on Twitter with a Star Wars reference, I knew I had found my new home. As a proud Star Wars fan, any company that's willing to tweet about droids and R2D2 gets instant approval from me.
My start in publishing came from a somewhat cliché undergrad program in English and Creative Writing. Later, my love of books would prompt me to start looking for career opportunities where I would be able to help people find, buy, read, and sell books so that others could benefit from them as I have. I graduated from Humber College's Creative Book Publishing Program this past summer and started my intern life at eBOUND Canada, where I gained valuable experience in all things tech and Excel. My time there really solidified my skills and interest in online and digital sales, as well as the technological side of publishing. When it came time to look for my next opportunity, I pounced on the BookNet posting and bragged about my Excel skills until they agreed to hire me. I was really interested in learning from such a great team and getting more hands-on experience with big amounts of data.
Something you should know about me is that I'm very serious about organization. I love making lists, filtering, sorting, and reordering, which will help me as I encounter new and challenging projects at BookNet. I intend to look at data the same way I organize my life: from multiple points of view, and as detailed as possible. It also means I'm your go-to gal if you want lists of places to go, things to do, and food to eat!
Since my program at Humber, I've heard great things about BookNet and their internship program. I am looking forward to learning, being challenged, and contributing as much as I can during my time here. I'm really excited to learn more about data analysis, sales, and a broad picture of the publishing industry. I'm grateful for this opportunity and can't wait to get started!
