The National Association of Independent Publisher Representatives has upgraded their Frontlist Plus catalogue/catalog (it’s North America wide) ordering system to keep the best of the sales rep experience while losing some of the cheque/checkbook hurting paper costs:
It will provide all field reps, not just independent reps, with Web-based tools to create e-order forms for trade, college and Christian bookstores in both the U.S. and Canada. Commission and house reps will be able to unlock their password-protected bags, so that booksellers can obtain e-catalogs and order forms for their lines. Accounts not connected to the Internet will also be covered; reps will provide them with material on diskette, CD-ROM or USB flash drive.
A ‘password-protected bag’? What will they think of next?
