Earlier this week, after much build-up, O’Reilly announced they were now rolling out a new way to buy e-books: by the chapter.
It’s mainly intended for reference books at the moment but there’s potential here for fiction. With the everything old is new again feeling emerging technology sometimes induces, I’m imagining a serialization of Dickensian-like novels. Seems particularly suitable for some of the more prolific folks like James Patterson and Nora Roberts who are publishing more than one book a year and have a fanbase perpetually hungry for their new work.
Why bother waiting months for a packaged book when you could get new chapters from your favorites every week?
