Not the Babel Fish, but Close

In another episode of sci-fi technology meets reality, a South Korean company—Mouscan—is developing a product that will scan text in any language and then create a translation of that text that can be read back to you. The new device will be called Voiscan and is targeted at people with sight impairments, foreign-language students and international travelers.

The interesting thing about this vaguely Babel Fish like device is that it is licensing technology from HP that has been around since about 1998. You just never know what those big tech firms have hiding in their attic.
